PACIFIC STARS & STRIPES cartoon satirizing the 600th PS Mission - 1968
The caption reads:
"NOW THEN, MEN, I WANT YOU TO FLY INTO A HEAVY-FLAK AREA AND GET
PHOTOS OF CLOSE BURSTS, THEN GET CLOSE-UPS OF ENEMY MIGS SHOOTING AT YOU FROM ALL SIDES, NEXT CIRCLE AROUND A SAM SITE AND GET SOME SHOTS AS A ROCKET COMES ROARING TOWARDS YOUR TAILPIPE, THEN BUZZ LOW AND SLOW OVER HANOI AND GET SOME PICTURES OF HO-CHI-MINH, AND, IF YOU GET SHOT DOWN, SEND BACK A BUNCH OF PHOTOS SHOWING CONDITIONS AT THE POW CAMP . . ."

Sgt. Garcia, Lt. Spindle, A1C Bradley Kirk, SSgt Ralph Kelly
"We had just returned from Song Be, I think it was called. That was one of the forward
locations the 101st Airborne Division moved to after arriving in-country. That was
one of my first jobs. I think the project might have been 'Eagle Thrust,.' Filming their
arrival at Bien Hoa. That was the first time I had worked with the C-141. I thought
it was a beautiful aircraft." Ralph Kelly, e-mail, 9/30/06

600th PS Compound - January 31 or February 1, 1968 - Color
Front Row: Msgt Desautel, SSgt Jim Ross, SSgt Eddie McCrossen
Back Row: A1C Bradley Kirk, SSgt Ralph Kelly, SSgt. Tom Katakenish (?)
"The photo with Jim Ross in it was taken after we returned from the perimeter (of
Tan Son Nhut, AB) the first day of the Tet Offensive. There was a bunker that had
been taken over by NVA/VC there. The Security Police had been sent out to
retake the bunker. The group of us were all together. We were only there about
half (hour) or so, but it sure seemed like longer than that."
Ralph Kelly e-mail, 9/30/06
Note the blood on SSgt Jim Ross’s shirt and pants. It was during this action that
SSgt Jim Ross saved the life of a ARVN soldier which earn Ross a Silver Star.

600th Photo Team at Dong Ha - 1968 - Color
Sgt. Gagioch, Sgt. Arnold Rodriguez, Lt. Dennis Johnson, SSgt Lyons
We were at Dong Ha to document a new piece of Air Force hardware, a mobile
control tower, known as ALCE. It was during a period of high alert and enemy
action in the area, so we are all wearing our side arms.

Well, the FORUM is back online. It was taken down due to spammers. I hope that it will not have to be shut down again.
I wanted this FORUM to be a meeting place where 600th PS - 601st PF personnel could gather to correspond and share with each other their thoughts and memories.
Enjoy!
